How do you know which route your paving needs?

Look at what is actually wrong. The direct answer is simple: if the surface has dropped, the problem is underneath and a repair of the base is needed; if it is level but faded or stained, renovation may be enough; if the pavers are broken, crumbling or the layout no longer works, replacement is the honest choice.

Often a surface shows more than one problem. In that case we explain each part separately in the quote, so you can see what each route would mean for your specific drive or patio.

A simple test you can do yourself: after rain, note where water stays on the surface and for how long, and press a foot on blocks near the edges to feel whether they rock. Take photos of both. Rocking blocks and lingering puddles point to the base; a level, firm surface that just looks dull points to the top layer.

What does a full replacement involve?

When replacement is the right call, our paving replacement service covers the full sequence: lifting the old surface, separating and removing the waste, checking the ground, rebuilding the sub-base and, if needed, a concrete base under the paving. Then come the bedding layer, new pavers, jointing and final compaction.

Replacement is also the moment to fix what was wrong with the old layout: a drive too narrow for today's car, a path that floods, or a level that brings water to the door. Our guide to layers and base explains why the build-up underneath decides how long the new surface performs.

It also lets you change the material. If the original concrete pavers have faded unevenly, you might move to a through-coloured clay paver, a natural stone border, or a different format and pattern. Our materials comparison helps you weigh the options before choosing, and we bring samples to the visit on request.

Which areas of Alhaurín de la Torre do we cover?

All of them: Pinos de Alhaurín, El Romeral, Lagar de las Pitas, Torre Alquería, Zapata, El Alamillo, Los Tomillares and the town centre. Alhaurín de la Torre is an inland municipality of the Valle del Guadalhorce, and we travel there from Marbella as we do across the province.

If your home belongs to a development with shared roads or gardens, the community of owners decides on those areas. For outdoor paving procedure with the town hall, check the current municipal ordinance or ask at the town hall.

Frequently asked questions

Do you work in El Romeral, Zapata and Pinos de Alhaurín?

Yes. Those areas, along with Lagar de las Pitas, Torre Alquería, El Alamillo and Los Tomillares, are part of Alhaurín de la Torre and fully within our working area.

My drive has a few dips. Does it all need replacing?

Not necessarily. If the dips are localised and the pavers are intact, lifting those areas, correcting the base and relaying the same blocks is usually enough. Our sister site for sunken paving handles exactly this.

The paving is level but looks old. What can be done?

A sound, level surface that is only faded or stained can often be renovated without lifting it: cleaning, filling cracks and applying a tinted coating. Our sister renovation site explains the process.

When is replacement the only sensible option?

When many pavers are cracked or crumbling, the base has failed across most of the area, or the layout no longer works for how you use it. Repeated repairs on a failed surface rarely last.

Can I keep the old pavers and just fix the base?

If the blocks are in good condition, yes. They are lifted, cleaned and relaid on the corrected base. Some may break during lifting, so having a few matching spares helps.

Why are my pavers cracking?

Common reasons include a product too thin for the traffic, a weak or uneven base, or loads the surface was never designed for, such as a delivery lorry. Identifying the cause matters before choosing new pavers.

Can you widen my drive at the same time as replacing it?

Yes, if there is space on your plot. Replacement is a good moment to widen, add a parking bay or change the shape. Any change touching the public pavement needs separate authorisation.

Do you assess the surface before quoting?

Yes. Photos give a first idea; on the visit we check levels, edges, drainage and the state of the pavers. Where needed, we lift one or two blocks to see the bedding and base.

Is a permit needed for replacing paving?

In Alhaurín de la Torre the procedure for outdoor paving is set by the current ordinance, which is worth checking before work starts. Many minor private works in Andalusia are handled by a responsible declaration.

Can you remove the old surface without a skip on the street?

Usually, yes. We load rubble directly onto a vehicle and take it to an authorised facility. If a skip on the street is needed, its authorisation is checked beforehand.
