Block paving in Archidona and the Nororma villages

In shortNororma is an inland comarca of seven municipalities: Archidona, Cuevas Bajas, Cuevas de San Marcos, Villanueva de Algaidas, Villanueva de Tapia, Villanueva del Rosario and Villanueva del Trabuco. We lay new block paving, natural stone and clay pavers and replace failed surfaces in all of them. No town here has its own page on our sites, so this hub covers the whole comarca, with a written, itemised quote for every job.

Which municipalities are in Nororma?

Seven, all inland. Four of them share the name Villanueva, so when you contact us, please give the full name of the municipality and, if possible, a map pin of the property.

  • Archidona
  • Cuevas Bajas, Cuevas de San Marcos
  • Villanueva de Algaidas, Villanueva de Tapia
  • Villanueva del Rosario, Villanueva del Trabuco

We work in all seven, from our base in Marbella. Because the comarca is some distance away, we prepare each job with photos and measurements before a single visit, and propose one continuous work period in the quote.

What should a written paving quote include?

Every stage, listed separately, so you can see what you are paying for and compare offers fairly. A quote that shows only one total for 'paving' makes it impossible to tell whether the base, the kerbs or the waste removal have been included.

  1. Lifting and removal of the existing surface, if any, and where the waste goes.
  2. Excavation and compaction of the natural ground.
  3. Sub-base material and, where needed, a concrete base.
  4. Kerbs or edge restraint, with their type and length.
  5. Bedding layer, pavers (type, format, colour) and jointing.
  6. Falls, drainage points and any channels or gullies.
  7. Final cleaning and what is left on site.

Our sister price site explains this in more detail on what a paving quote includes, and the checklist for choosing a paving contractor lists questions worth asking any contractor, ourselves included.

Which services suit Nororma properties?

That depends on the property, not the comarca. If your home is a village house in Archidona or Cuevas de San Marcos, a patio, entrance or courtyard in natural stone or clay pavers is a likely job. If it is a house on land near one of the Villanuevas, a drive in concrete block paving with kerbs may be the priority, perhaps with grass grids for occasional parking.

Where an old surface has failed, paving replacement covers lifting, waste removal and a rebuilt base. Rules for works on rustic land, and for visible materials in village centres, are set by each town hall and worth checking before you choose; our permits and rules guide explains the framework.

Double-T pavers, like those in the photo, are a practical choice where a yard or entrance takes repeated turning by vans or tractors, because their shape locks each block against its neighbours. For a patio used only on foot, a plain rectangular or multi-format paver gives a calmer look and needs fewer cuts at the edges.

How do you start?

If you are not sure what you want yet, that is fine. Describe the problem instead – mud at the gate in winter, water lying by the back door, a patio that is too small – and we will suggest options and explain the trade-offs before anything is priced in detail.

Name the municipality in full, describe what is there now and how the area is used, and include a picture of the access from the road. Cost factors, including travel and access, are explained on what moves the cost of paving. Then contact us.

Frequently asked questions

Do you work in Archidona?

Yes. Archidona is part of the Nororma comarca and within our working area, along with Cuevas Bajas, Cuevas de San Marcos and the four Villanueva municipalities.

There are four Villanuevas. How do I make sure you find the right one?

Give the full name – Villanueva de Algaidas, de Tapia, del Rosario or del Trabuco – and send a map pin or the full address. That avoids any confusion when we plan the visit and deliveries.

Why is there no town page for Nororma villages?

We have not created separate pages for these municipalities yet. The service is exactly the same as in towns that have one: photos first, a visit, then an itemised written quote.

What should I look for when comparing paving quotes?

Check that each quote lists lifting, base, kerbs, bedding, pavers, jointing, falls and waste removal separately. Differences in the base and edges explain most of the gap between a cheap and a sound quote.

Can you pave a village courtyard in Cuevas de San Marcos?

Yes. Natural stone or clay usually suits a traditional courtyard. Where the only access is through the house, materials and rubble are moved by hand truck, and floors on the route are protected.

Can a house on land near Villanueva del Trabuco have permeable parking?

Yes. Grass grids or gravel-filled grids provide firm, permeable parking for occasional use. Hard paving can be kept for the area around the house and the main parking space.

Does the distance from Marbella affect the price?

Travel is one of several cost factors, with area, access, existing surface and material. We plan one visit and a continuous work period so that travel stays a modest part of the total.

Is a permit needed for paving in Nororma?

Each of the seven town halls sets its own procedure, so it is confirmed with the one concerned. Andalusia's LISTA law provides a responsible declaration for many minor works, and rustic land may follow different rules.

Can I arrange everything in English?

Yes. Questions, the quote and photo updates can all be in English. If a relative or neighbour is handling the job locally in Spanish, we can communicate with them too.

What happens to the waste from my old paving?

We load it and take it to an authorised construction waste facility. Its removal appears as a separate line in the itemised quote, so you can see exactly what that part costs.
