Which municipalities are in the Sierra de las Nieves?
On this site we list eight, all inland:
- Alozaina, Casarabonela, Guaro, Istán
- Monda, Ojén, Tolox, Yunquera
Two notes on the boundaries. Istán and Ojén are placed in the Sierra de las Nieves by the Diputación de Málaga, while other sources link them with the Costa del Sol Occidental; we follow the Diputación. El Burgo is grouped by the Diputación with this comarca too, but the Junta de Andalucía places it in the Serranía de Ronda, which is where we list it.
What paving jobs are typical in these villages?
There is no single type, but two situations come up often. If your home is a village house in the centre of Tolox, Yunquera or Casarabonela, the job may be a patio or entrance reached by a narrow street or through the house itself. If it is a country house near Monda, Guaro or Istán, a drive, a parking space and paths around the house are more likely.
- Village patios and entrances: natural stone setts and slabs or clay pavers often suit traditional houses.
- Drives and parking: concrete block paving on a properly compacted base, with kerbs at the edges.
- Occasional parking on land: grass grids or permeable paving that let rain soak in.
- Failed old surfaces: paving replacement including lifting and waste removal.
Older village houses can hide earlier layers under the current floor: a cement screed over old tiles, or stone laid straight onto earth. When we lift a surface like that, we check what lies beneath before deciding the new build-up, and we tell you if the base needs more work than the photos suggested. Our guide to layers and base explains what a sound build-up looks like.
How do we handle access in villages and on slopes?
We match the delivery to the street. Where a lorry cannot reach the door, materials come on a smaller vehicle or are unloaded at the nearest point and moved by dumper or hand truck. On a sloping plot, the base, the edge restraint and the falls are designed so water is led off and pavers cannot creep downhill; our guide to compaction and falls explains the principles.
Rules for visible materials in village centres, and for works on rustic land, are set by each town hall and should be checked with it before choosing. Our permits and rules guide covers the general Andalusian framework.
Where only one route serves several houses, we also think about the neighbours. Deliveries are timed so the lane is not blocked for long, vehicles are kept off it while unloading, and if a compactor will run close to a shared wall, we let you know in advance so it can be mentioned next door.
Which sister pages exist for this comarca?
For Ojén, the same contractor has terraces and pools in Ojén and surface renovation in Ojén. For the other seven villages, contact us here for any paving or surface work. Price factors, including access and travel, are explained on what moves the cost of paving. Send us a photo and the approximate m² – free, no-obligation quote: contact us.

Frequently asked questions
Do you work in Istán, Monda and Tolox?
Yes. We cover all eight municipalities we list under the Sierra de las Nieves: Alozaina, Casarabonela, Guaro, Istán, Monda, Ojén, Tolox and Yunquera. Villages without their own page are served in exactly the same way.
Is Istán in the Sierra de las Nieves or the Costa del Sol?
Sources disagree. The Diputación de Málaga places Istán in the Sierra de las Nieves, which we follow, while some sources group it with the Costa del Sol Occidental. It makes no difference to our service.
Why is El Burgo not on this list?
The Diputación groups El Burgo with the Sierra de las Nieves, but the Junta de Andalucía places it in the Serranía de Ronda. We follow the Junta there, so El Burgo appears on our Serranía de Ronda page.
Can you pave a patio in a narrow village street in Yunquera?
Yes. We bring materials on a smaller vehicle or move them by hand truck from the nearest unloading point, protect the route through the house if needed and take rubble out the same way.
What paving suits a traditional house in Casarabonela or Tolox?
Natural stone or clay usually sits best with traditional architecture. Before choosing, ask the town hall whether rules apply to visible materials in the village centre.
Can a country house near Guaro have a paved drive?
Yes. Concrete blocks on a compacted base with kerbs make a durable drive. For long accesses, paved wheel tracks or grass grids can be a lighter, more permeable alternative.
How far is the Sierra de las Nieves from your base?
Our base is in Marbella, and Ojén borders Marbella. The other villages are further inland. Travel is planned into the job, with visits and deliveries grouped to keep it efficient.
Is a permit needed for paving in these villages?
Each town hall sets the procedure in its own ordinance, so the route for your job is something to confirm with yours. Many minor private works in Andalusia are handled by a responsible declaration; works on rustic land may follow different rules.
Can I manage the job while living abroad?
Yes. Send photos and approximate m², arrange the visit with someone you trust, and we will send an itemised quote in English and photo updates during the work.
Do you also renovate old paving instead of replacing it?
If the surface is sound but tired, our sister renovation site can refresh it without lifting. It has a page for Ojén, and the same contractor can advise for the other villages.
