Which laying pattern should you choose?
For a surface that cars drive on, a herringbone pattern is usually the strongest, because the blocks lock into each other in two directions. For paths and patios, simpler patterns work well and need fewer cuts. The photo above shows a multi-format layout, which mixes several sizes for a more natural, less regimented look.
- Herringbone at 45° or 90°: interlocks well, suits drives and turning areas.
- Stretcher bond (rows): clean lines, quick to lay, best on paths or along the length of a drive.
- Basket weave (petatillo): decorative, better for pedestrian areas.
- Multi-format: relaxed and varied, popular for patios and garden paths.

Direction matters as much as the pattern. Rows laid across a narrow path make it look wider; rows running along it make it look longer. On a drive, a herringbone field with a soldier course of blocks along the edges gives both strength and a neat finish where the paving meets the kerb.

How should you photograph the area for a quote?
Good photos save a visit or make it much shorter. Take them in daylight and try to include:
- One wide shot of the whole area from each end.
- Close-ups of cracks, dips, loose blocks or broken edges.
- The point where the paving meets walls, doors, the garden and the street.
- Existing drains, gullies or places where water collects after rain.
- The access from the street: gate width, steps, slopes or tight corners.

Which pattern is best for a driveway?
Herringbone, laid at 45° or 90° to the direction of travel, is the usual recommendation for drives because the blocks interlock and resist the twisting of tyres. Other patterns can work for light use with a good base and edges.
Does the pattern change the price?
It can. Patterns that need many cuts at the edges, such as herringbone at 45°, take more labour than straight rows. The difference depends on the shape of the area, which we see in your photos.
Can I mix sizes and colours?
Yes. Multi-format layouts use several sizes from the same range, and a contrasting border or band can frame a patio or mark a parking space. We suggest combinations from what suppliers have in stock at the time.
How many photos should I send?
Five to ten usually cover it: wide shots, close-ups of problem spots, edges, drains and the access from the street. More is fine; photos taken in daylight are the most useful.
Can I approve the colour from photos?
Often, yes, though screens change colours. If the tone matters a lot to you, ask for a physical sample or for photos of the sample in daylight next to your wall or front door.
What if my community has a shared garage ramp that needs repaving?
That is a common element, so the owners' meeting must approve the work. We prepare a written quote for the administrator and plan the job so residents keep access to their parking where possible.
Is a permit required for paving in Rincón de la Victoria?
That is decided by the current municipal ordinance, which the town hall can confirm for your job. For many minor private works, Andalusian law provides a responsible declaration; anything affecting the public pavement needs its own authorisation.
Can new pavers be laid directly on my old tiles?
Generally not. Laying over tiles raises levels, can block door thresholds and traps the old faults beneath. We normally lift the tiles, check the base and rebuild it before laying pavers.
