How do we work on a designed villa project?
As the paving contractor inside a larger team. On a villa with an architect or landscape designer, the levels, drainage points, materials and patterns are usually specified in drawings. Our job is to build exactly that, flag anything that will not work in practice, and deliver a clean result on schedule with the other trades.
- We review the drawings and specification and list any questions about levels, falls, joints and edges.
- We source samples of the specified paver or stone, or propose equivalents if a product is unavailable.
- If wanted, we lay a small test panel so the designer and owner can approve colour, pattern and joint width.
- We agree the sequence with the main contractor so heavy work and scaffolding finish before paving.
- We lay, protect the finished areas from other trades and hand over with photos.
We do not draft projects, calculate structures or obtain licences. Where a technical project is needed, the architect or engineer prepares it and we follow it.
Which materials appear on Benahavís projects?
Whatever the design calls for. For entrance courts and paths, natural stone setts and slabs are a frequent specification, including irregular crazy paving like the one in the photo. For drives that take several cars, large-format concrete block paving on a designed base is often specified, sometimes framed with stone. Where the plan includes permeable parking, see permeable paving and grass grids.
Each product type has its own European standard – UNE-EN 1341 for natural stone slabs, UNE-EN 1342 for setts, UNE-EN 1338 for concrete blocks – and the specification should refer to it. Our materials comparison explains the differences.
On renovation projects the brief is sometimes to match existing stone elsewhere on the property. We take samples or photos of the original to suppliers, and where an exact match is impossible we suggest a deliberate contrast, such as a border, so the new work reads as intended rather than as a near miss.
Which parts of Benahavís do we cover?
All of the municipality, including La Zagaleta, El Madroñal, Los Arqueros, La Quinta, Monte Halcones, La Heredia, La Alquería-El Paraíso, Montemayor and Daidín. Benahavís belongs to the Costa del Sol Occidental comarca but does not reach the sea. In gated estates, we register vehicles and follow the estate's rules for contractors and working hours.
The procedure with the town hall for your project is set by Benahavís' current ordinance and is normally handled by the owner or the architect, who can confirm it with the town hall. Shared estate roads and gardens depend on the community of owners.
Who else can help on the same villa?
Pool decks and terraces are covered by terraces and pools in Benahavís, and renovation of existing surfaces by surface renovation in Benahavís; both are run by the same contractor, so one point of contact can cover all outdoor surfaces. Cost factors are explained on what moves the cost of paving. For the surrounding towns, see the Costa del Sol Occidental page. Frequently asked questions
Do you work in La Zagaleta and other gated estates?
Yes. We work across Benahavís, including La Zagaleta, El Madroñal, Los Arqueros, La Quinta, Monte Halcones and La Heredia. We follow each estate's contractor rules, such as vehicle registration and permitted hours.
Can you quote from the architect's drawings?
Yes. Send the plans and the paving specification and we will price them as drawn, listing any assumptions or questions. Photos of the current site help us understand access and the state of the ground.
What is a test panel and is it worth it?
It is a small area laid with the specified paver, pattern and joint so the designer and owner can approve the look before the full job. For expensive stone or unusual patterns, it avoids costly surprises.
What if the specified stone is not available?
We tell the designer early and propose alternatives with similar appearance and the same type of standard, with samples. The final choice is always the designer's and owner's, not ours.
How do you protect new paving from other trades?
We agree with the main contractor that paving comes after heavy work, and we cover finished areas with protection where other trades still need to pass. Damage by later works is then easier to avoid.
Does Benahavís have a coastline?
No. Benahavís is part of the Costa del Sol Occidental comarca but is an inland municipality without its own stretch of coast.
Can you suggest improvements to the designer's details?
Yes, where we see a practical issue, such as a fall towards a door or a joint width unsuited to the stone. We raise it with the designer; any change is their decision.
Who applies for the permit on a villa project?
Normally the owner or the architect, depending on the project. We are the contractor who executes the paving and do not prepare licence applications. Benahavís' procedure for your job is set by its ordinance and worth checking first.
Can you handle the pool surround and the drive together?
Yes. Our terraces and pools site covers pool areas, run by the same contractor, so the drive, paths and pool surround can be planned as one outdoor package.
Do you communicate with the project team in English?
Yes. We work in English or Spanish with owners, architects, landscape designers and site managers, and send photo reports at the stages the team wants to see.
