Block paving and paving replacement in the city of Málaga

In shortAdoquinado Málaga lays block paving and replaces old outdoor surfaces throughout the city of Málaga, the only municipality of the Málaga-Costa del Sol comarca. We work in districts from Este and Ciudad Jardín to Churriana, Puerto de la Torre and Teatinos-Universidad. Málaga City Council lists which works go by responsible declaration and which are exempt; whether your paving job is on that list is checked case by case.

What makes a good builder for paving in Málaga?

For outdoor paving, a good contractor is one who explains the base before talking about the pavers, puts every stage in writing and tells you plainly what they do not do. We are a paving specialist: base, edges, bedding, pavers and joints, plus lifting and removing old surfaces; we also pour new stamped concrete and lay asphalt. We do not draft projects or obtain licences on your behalf.

Before you hire anyone, our checklist for choosing a paving contractor lists the questions worth asking, from how the base will be built to who takes the rubble away.

A good contractor also listens to how you use the space. A courtyard used for drying laundry and potted plants, a garage entrance shared by two families and a garden path for an elderly parent each call for different formats, falls and finishes, even inside the same city block.

Which districts of Málaga do we work in?

All of them. The city's eleven districts, as listed in the municipal statistics, are:

  • Centro, Este, Ciudad Jardín, Bailén-Miraflores
  • Palma-Palmilla, Cruz de Humilladero, Carretera de Cádiz
  • Churriana, Campanillas, Puerto de la Torre, Teatinos-Universidad

The type of job changes with the district. In the centre it may be the inner courtyard of an older building, like the one in the photo, where materials come in through a doorway by hand truck. In Este, with barrios such as El Limonar or Pedregalejo, it could be a terraced house entrance; in Churriana or Puerto de la Torre, if your house is detached, a full drive and garden paths.

What do the Málaga town hall rules say?

Málaga City Council's planning office (Gerencia de Urbanismo) reported in 2021 more than 40 types of works handled by responsible declaration and 22 types exempt from both licence and declaration, published on its website under 'actos no sujetos a licencia'. Whether your specific paving job falls on one of those lists is something to check case by case.

If the work reaches the public pavement or involves a dropped kerb for a vehicle entrance, separate municipal authorisation is required under the city's ordinance. Our permits and rules guide explains the Andalusian framework and the role of communities of owners.

Which of our services fit city properties?

Most city jobs are replacements: lifting old paving and laying new in courtyards and entrances where tiles have broken or the concrete has failed. Where the ground has never had a proper foundation, a concrete base under the paving is built first. For historic settings, natural stone setts and slabs or clay pavers often fit better than grey concrete.

The same contractor runs specialist sites for the city: sunken paver repair in Málaga, driveways and parking in Málaga, terraces and pools in Málaga and surface renovation in Málaga. Cost factors are on our paving prices page, and the Málaga-Costa del Sol area page puts the city in context. Send us a photo and the approximate m² – free, no-obligation quote: get in touch.

Frequently asked questions

Are you a builder or a paving specialist?

A paving specialist. We build the base, set kerbs, lay pavers and joints, and lift and dispose of old surfaces. We also pour new stamped concrete and lay asphalt. Other building work, such as walls, structures or installations, is for a general builder, with whom we can coordinate.

Do you work in the historic centre of Málaga?

Yes, including courtyards and entrances of older buildings in the Centro district. Access is often through a doorway or passage, so materials are brought in by hand truck and rubble taken out the same way, which we plan in advance.

Does my paving job in Málaga need a licence?

Málaga City Council publishes lists of works that go by responsible declaration and works exempt from both licence and declaration. Whether your job is on one of those lists must be checked for your case with the City Council.

Can you pave the inner courtyard of a community building?

Yes, once the community of owners has approved the work at its meeting. We provide a written quote and photos the administrator can present, and agree working hours that suit the residents.

Do you work in Teatinos, Churriana and Campanillas?

Yes. We cover every district of the city, including Teatinos-Universidad, Churriana, Campanillas and Puerto de la Torre, as well as the central and eastern districts.

What paving suits a period building?

Natural stone setts or slabs and clay pavers usually sit best beside older façades and patterned tiles. In a listed or protected building, the town hall may have its own requirements, which the owner or architect should confirm first.

Can you take the rubble out through a narrow entrance?

Yes. We break up old surfaces into manageable pieces, bag or barrow them out and load them onto a vehicle at the street. Removal goes to an authorised facility and is priced separately.

Can I communicate with you in English?

Yes. We handle questions, quotes and progress updates in English by email or WhatsApp, and can also speak Spanish with your administrator, neighbours or architect.

What do I need to send for a first estimate?

Photos of the whole area and its access, the approximate square metres and a note of what you want: new paving, replacement or a repair. With that we can give a first estimate and arrange a visit.

My courtyard floods when it rains. Can new paving fix it?

Usually the fix is in the falls and the drain, not the paver. When we rebuild a courtyard we set gradients towards an existing or new gully. If the drain itself is blocked, a plumber may need to clear it first.
