Paving in Vélez-Málaga's coastal and inland villages

In shortVélez-Málaga, in the Axarquía, is a large municipality made up of many separate villages – Torre del Mar, Caleta de Vélez, Benajarafe, Chilches, Almayate, Mezquitilla, Lagos, Trapiche, Cajiz, Triana and Valle-Niza among them. We lay and replace paving in all of them. If your property is a country house on a larger plot, permeable surfaces and grass grids can be a better answer than paving everything hard.

Which villages of Vélez-Málaga do we cover?

All of them. The municipality has a coastal side and inland villages, and the names in our location data include:

  • Torre del Mar, Caleta de Vélez, Benajarafe, Chilches, Almayate, Mezquitilla, Lagos, Valle-Niza
  • Trapiche, Cajiz, Triana and the town of Vélez-Málaga itself

The work varies with the setting. In a village-centre house the job may be a small patio reached through the front door; on a plot outside a village it could be a long access track, a parking area and paths around the house.

On the coastal side, in places such as Torre del Mar or Caleta de Vélez, if your home is a townhouse or a flat in a development, the job is likely to be an entrance, a patio or a shared path. Inland, around Trapiche, Cajiz or Triana, a property with its own land may also need an access of some length. We ask about this early, because it changes the machinery, the deliveries and the right materials.

Should a country plot be fully paved?

Often not. If your house stands on a larger plot, paving every square metre seals the ground, sends more rainwater to the edges and costs more than necessary. A mix usually works better: hard paving where people walk and park daily, and permeable surfaces elsewhere.

  • Hard block paving around the house, at the entrance and on the main parking space.
  • Grass grids or gravel-filled grids for occasional parking and turning areas.
  • Wheel tracks in pavers or grids along a long access, with planting or gravel between them.
  • Natural stone or clay for garden paths where a softer look suits the setting.

Our page on permeable paving and grass grids explains how these surfaces are built, and the materials comparison puts them next to standard pavers. For the hard areas, concrete block paving and kerbs and edging are the usual combination.

What practical points matter on rural access?

On a property outside a village, getting materials in can be the main challenge. If the access is an unpaved track, we check whether a lorry can reach the house in all weather, where pallets can be unloaded and where a turning space exists. Sometimes deliveries need a smaller vehicle or a dumper for the last stretch, which we price in the quote.

Rural land can have its own planning rules, different from those in urban areas. Before paving a rustic plot, ask the town hall which procedure applies to your plot. Our permits and rules guide explains the general framework in Andalusia.

Electricity and water on site help too. If the house is unoccupied, tell us whether there is a tap we can use for cleaning tools and wetting down dust, and whether a socket is available. Where neither exists, we bring what we need, but knowing in advance avoids surprises on the first morning.

Frequently asked questions

Do you work in Torre del Mar and Caleta de Vélez?

Yes, and in every other village of the municipality, including Benajarafe, Chilches, Almayate, Mezquitilla, Lagos, Valle-Niza, Trapiche, Cajiz and Triana. Send the location with your photos so we can plan access.

Can you pave a long access track to a country house?

Yes, though paving the full width and length is not always the best use of budget. Wheel tracks in pavers or grass grids, with gravel between them, are a common alternative that keeps the ground permeable.

What is the advantage of a grass grid on a rural plot?

It gives a firm surface for occasional parking or turning while letting rain soak into the ground and keeping a greener look. The cells can be filled with soil and grass or with gravel.

Is a lorry able to reach my house up a dirt track?

That depends on the track's width, slope and condition. Send photos or a short video of the route. If a large lorry cannot get up, we use a smaller vehicle or a dumper for the final section.

Are the planning rules different for rustic land?

They can be. Land classified as non-urban often has its own rules for works. Check with the Vélez-Málaga town hall which procedure applies to your plot before work starts.

Can you lay natural stone paths through a garden?

Yes. Stone slabs or setts on a compacted base make durable garden paths. For a more informal look, stepping stones set in gravel are another option, laid so each piece sits firmly and does not rock.

Do you pave small patios in village houses?

Yes. Small patios are common, and access is often through the house. We bring materials in by hand truck, protect floors on the route and remove rubble the same way.

Will a fully paved plot cause water problems?

It can increase runoff, because sealed surfaces do not absorb rain. We set falls towards planted areas or drains and suggest permeable zones where possible, so water is not sent onto the house or neighbouring land.

Can I have the work done while I am abroad?

Yes. After a visit with you or your key holder, we send an itemised quote in English, agree dates and keep you updated with photos until the job is finished.

Can sunken areas of my existing paving be repaired instead?

If most of the paving is sound and only some areas have dropped, a repair is usually the better choice. Our sister site for sunken paver repair covers Vélez-Málaga.
